Malta Explorer is an independent travel guide to the Maltese archipelago: Malta, Gozo and Comino. The site is published by F5 Media SAS, a French publisher headquartered near Lake Geneva. We focus on destinations we genuinely know, with no agency-written filler.
What we cover
Practical, on-the-ground information about visiting the Maltese archipelago: how to get there, when to go, what to see across the seven regions, where to stay, and how to plan a Malta-and-Gozo trip without sacrificing one to the other. We organise the destination from Valletta and the Three Cities through Sliema, Mdina, the north, the south, Gozo and Comino.
Editorial principles
- Independent. We are not owned by, nor partnered with, any hotel chain, airline, or tour operator. Our recommendations are based on research and travel, not commercial relationships.
- Original research. Every page is written from primary sources, official tourist board data, Visit Malta, Heritage Malta publications, and our own travel notes. We do not republish or rewrite other travel blogs' content.
- Honest about trade-offs. We tell readers what to skip. If a tour is overcrowded, if a hotel is in a noisy area, if a restaurant is a tourist trap, we say so. The site's value is in the negatives as much as the positives.
- Last-updated dates. Practical pages (prices, schedules, formalities) carry a visible "last updated" date so you know whether the information is current. We refresh them at least twice a year.
- Translated, not just machine-converted. The English version is the source of truth. Other languages are translated by a structured pipeline and then reviewed by native speakers; they are not direct machine-translation output.
Affiliate links: how we handle them
Some pages contain links to booking partners, primarily GetYourGuide for activities and tours, Tiqets for ticketed attractions, and Skyscanner for flights. When you book through one of those links, the partner pays us a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how the site funds itself.
We follow Google's 2019 guideline on commercial links: every affiliate link on this site is marked with rel="sponsored" in its HTML, so search engines understand the relationship is commercial. You can verify this on any page by right-clicking a partner link and inspecting it.
We never recommend a tour or hotel solely because it pays a commission. Recommendations are based on rating, review count, and our editorial judgment. If a partner is missing from a page, it is because we did not find a relevant product, not because we have nothing to gain from listing it.
Privacy and tracking
